1 IN the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying, 2 Thus says the LORD of hosts: This people say the time has not yet come to build the house of the LORD. 3 Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 Is it a time for you to dwell in your ceiled houses, and this house lie waste? 5 Now therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. 6 You have sown much and stored little: you eat, but you never are satisfied; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but you are not warm; and he who trades among you, earns wages to put it into a bag with holes. 7 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways.
