20 And Hamor came—and Shechem his son—to the gate of their city, and they spoke to the men of their city, saying, 21 “These men, they are at peace with us; so let them dwell in the land and trade in it, for, behold, the land is broad of hands before them. Let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give our daughters to them. 22 Only on this condition will the men consent to us to dwell with us, to be one people: If every male among us be circumcised as they are circumcised. 23 Their livestock and their property and every animal of theirs, will they not be ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us.” 24 And all who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and to Shechem his son, and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.
