1 And the serpent was cunning above every beast of the field that YHWH God had made. And he said to the woman, “Is it true that God has said, ‘You? shall not eat from any tree of the garden?’” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, 3 and from the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You? shall not eat from it, and you? shall not touch it, lest you? die.’” 4 And the serpent said to the woman, “You? will not surely die! 5 For God knows that in the day of your? eating from it, your? eyes will be opened and you? will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes and the tree was desirable to make one wise. And she took from its fruit and ate, and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 And the eyes of the two of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed together leaves of the fig tree and made for themselves loincloths.
