In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was on the surface of the watery depths. And God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

And God said, |Let there be light,| and there was light.

And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. There was evening and there was morning, one day.

And God said, |Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.| And it was so.

And God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse.

And God called the expanse Sky. And God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning, a second day.

And God said, |Let the waters under the sky be gathered to one gathering, and let the dry land appear.| And it was so. And the waters under the sky gathered to their gatherings, and the dry land appeared.

And God called the dry land Earth, and the gatherings of the waters he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
