19 Now there was no blacksmith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines had said, |Otherwise the Hebrews will make swords or spears.|

20 But all Israel would go down to the Philistines, each to sharpen his plowshare, mattock, axe, and sickle;

21 and the charge was one payim for the plowshares and for the mattocks, and three shekels for picks and axes and to set the goads.

22 So on the day of the battle of Michmash there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan; but Saul and his son Jonathan had them.
