1 And it came to pass, as David was dwelling in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedars, and the ark of the covenant of YHWH is under curtains.” 2 And Nathan said to David, “All that is in your heart, do, for God is with you.” 3 And it came to pass in that night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4 “Go and tell unto David My servant, thus says YHWH: You shall not build Me a house to dwell in. 5 For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought up Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, and I have been from tent to tent, and from the Dwelling Place. 6 In all where I have walked among all Israel, have I ever spoken a word to one of the leaders of Israel whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, ‘Why have you? not built for Me a house of cedars?’ 7 And now, thus shall you say to My servant David: Thus says YHWH of Hosts: I took you from the sheepfold, from after the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel. 8 And I have been with you in all to which you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before your face, and I will make for you a name like the name of the great men who are on the earth. 1 Chronicles 17:1-8, Berean Literal Bible.
