1 And I turned and lifted up my eyes, and looked, and behold, a flying scroll. Again I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a flying scroll! I looked again, and there before me was a flying scroll.
2 And he said to me, “What are you seeing?” And I answered, “I am seeing a flying scroll. Its length is twenty by the cubit, and its width is ten by the cubit.” And he said to me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll. Its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.” He asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.”
3 And he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the face of all the earth. For everyone stealing, on this side according to it he will be cleaned out, and everyone swearing falsely, on this side according to it he will be cleaned out. Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals shall be cleaned out according to what is on one side, and everyone who swears falsely shall be cleaned out according to what is on the other side. And he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished.
4 I will send it out, a declaration of YHWH of Hosts, and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of the one swearing by My name for deception, and it will lodge in the midst of his house and will put an end to it and its timbers and its stones!” I will send it out, declares the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter the house of the thief, and the house of him who swears falsely by my name. And it shall remain in his house and consume it, both timber and stones.” The LORD Almighty declares, ‘I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.’”
5 And the angel speaking with me came forth, and he said to me: “Lift now your eyes, and see what this is that is going forth.” Then the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, “Lift your eyes and see what this is that is going out.” Then the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me, “Look up and see what is appearing.”
6 And I said, “What is it?” And he said, “This is the basket that is going forth.” And he said, “This is their iniquity in all the land.” And I said, “What is it?” He said, “This is the basket that is going out.” And he said, “This is their iniquity in all the land.” I asked, “What is it?” He replied, “It is a basket.” And he added, “This is the iniquity of the people throughout the land.”
7 And behold, a disc of lead was being lifted, and this is a lone woman sitting in the midst of the basket. And behold, the leaden cover was lifted, and there was a woman sitting in the basket! Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman!
8 And he said, “This is Wickedness.” And he threw her down into the midst of the basket, and he threw the weight of lead over its mouth. And he said, “This is Wickedness.” And he thrust her back into the basket, and thrust down the leaden weight on its opening. He said, “This is wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed its lead cover down on it.
9 And I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, two women were coming forth, and the wind was in their wings! And unto them were wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between the earth and between the heavens. Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, two women coming forward! The wind was in their wings. They had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven. Then I looked up—and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.
10 And I said to the angel speaking with me, “Where are they bringing the basket?” Then I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are they taking the basket?” “Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking to me.
11 And he said to me, “To build for it a house in the land of Shinar; and when it is ready, it will be made to rest there on its base.” He said to me, “To the land of Shinar, to build a house for it. And when this is prepared, they will set the basket down there on its base.” He replied, “To the country of Babylonia to build a house for it. When the house is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.”
