A Psalm by David, when he was in the desert of Judah. God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where there is no water. | O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. | A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. |
So I have seen you in the sanctuary, watching your power and your glory. | So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. | I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. |
Because your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise you. | Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. | Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. |
So I will bless you while I live. I will lift up my hands in your name. | So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. | I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. |
My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food. My mouth shall praise you with joyful lips, | My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, | I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. |
when I remember you on my bed, and think about you in the night watches. | when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; | On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. |
For you have been my help. I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings. | for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. | Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. |
My soul stays close to you. Your right hand holds me up. | My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. | I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. |
But those who seek my soul to destroy it shall go into the lower parts of the earth. | But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth; | Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. |
They shall be given over to the power of the sword. They shall be jackal food. | they shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals. | They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. |
But the king shall rejoice in God. Everyone who swears by him will praise him, for the mouth of those who speak lies shall be silenced. | But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be stopped. | But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced. |
