[For the choir director; on stringed instruments; a [maskil] by David when people from the city of Ziph told Saul that David was hiding among them.] O God, save me by your name, and defend me with your might. O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might. For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David. When the Ziphites had gone to Saul and said, “Is not David hiding among us?” Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might.
O God, hear my prayer, and open your ears to the words from my mouth. O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth. Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth.
Strangers have attacked me. Ruthless people seek my life. They do not think about God. [Selah] For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah Arrogant foes are attacking me; ruthless people are trying to kill me— people without regard for God.
God is my helper! The Lord is the provider for my life. Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life. Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.
My enemies spy on me. Pay them back with evil. Destroy them with your truth! He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them. Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them.
I will make a sacrifice to you along with a freewill offering. I will give thanks to your good name, O LORD. With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good. I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, LORD, for it is good.
Your name rescues me from every trouble. My eyes will gloat over my enemies. For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies. You have delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.
