[For the choir director; a psalm by David when the prophet Nathan came to him after David's adultery with Bathsheba.] Have pity on me, O God, in keeping with your mercy. In keeping with your unlimited compassion, wipe out my rebellious acts. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my guilt, and cleanse me from my sin. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
I admit that I am rebellious. My sin is always in front of me. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.
I have sinned against you, especially you. I have done what you consider evil. So you hand down justice when you speak, and you are blameless when you judge. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.
Indeed, I was born guilty. I was a sinner when my mother conceived me. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
Yet, you desire truth and sincerity. Deep down inside me you teach me wisdom. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place.
Purify me from sin with hyssop, and I will be clean. Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Let me hear [sounds of] joy and gladness. Let the bones that you have broken dance. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins, and wipe out all that I have done wrong. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
Create a clean heart in me, O God, and renew a faithful spirit within me. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not force me away from your presence, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore the joy of your salvation to me, and provide me with a spirit of willing obedience. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
[Then] I will teach your ways to those who are rebellious, and sinners will return to you. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.
Rescue me from the guilt of murder, O God, my savior. Let my tongue sing joyfully about your righteousness! Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will tell about your praise. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.
You are not happy with any sacrifice. Otherwise, I would offer one [to you]. You are not pleased with burnt offerings. For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. O God, you do not despise a broken and sorrowful heart. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
Favor Zion with your goodness. Rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; May it please you to prosper Zion, to build up the walls of Jerusalem.
Then you will be pleased with sacrifices offered in the right spirit- with burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings. Young bulls will be offered on your altar. then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar. Then you will delight in the sacrifices of the righteous, in burnt offerings offered whole; then bulls will be offered on your altar.
