A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the well-being of Zion, we thought we were dreaming. When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.
At that time we laughed loudly and shouted for joy. At that time the nations said, |The LORD has accomplished great things for these people.| Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
The LORD did indeed accomplish great things for us. We were happy. The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad. The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
O LORD, restore our well-being, just as the streams in the arid south are replenished. Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negeb! Restore our fortunes, LORD, like streams in the Negev.
Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest. Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
The one who weeps as he walks along, carrying his bag of seed, will certainly come in with a shout of joy, carrying his sheaves of grain. He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
