<V 125:1>A Canticle in steps. When the Lord turned back the captivity of Zion, we became like those who are consoled. When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.
<V 125:2>Then our mouth was filled with gladness and our tongue with exultation. Then they will say among the nations: “The Lord has done great things for them.” Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
<V 125:3>The Lord has done great things for us. We have become joyful. The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad. The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
<V 125:4>Convert our captivity, O Lord, like a torrent in the south. Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negeb! Restore our fortunes, LORD, like streams in the Negev.
<V 125:5>Those who sow in tears shall reap in exultation. Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
<V 125:6>When departing, they went forth and wept, sowing their seeds. <V 125:7>But when returning, they will arrive with exultation, carrying their sheaves. He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
