Four things on earth are small, but they are very, very wise: Four things on earth are small, but they are exceedingly wise: “Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise:
Ants aren't a strong species, yet they prepare their food in the summer. the ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their food in the summer; Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;
The rock badgers aren't a strong species either, yet they build their dens in the rocks. the rock badgers are a people not mighty, yet they make their homes in the cliffs; hyraxes are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags;
Locusts have no king, but they all swarm in ranks. the locusts have no king, yet all of them march in rank; locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks;
Spiders can be caught by the hand, yet they're found in kings' palaces. the lizard you can take in your hands, yet it is in kings’ palaces. a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.
Three things are stately in procession, four which are stately in their gait: Three things are stately in their tread; four are stately in their stride: “There are three things that are stately in their stride, four that move with stately bearing:
The lion, mighty among the beasts, retreats before nothing. the lion, which is mightiest among beasts and does not turn back before any; a lion, mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing;
The strutting rooster, as well as the goat, and a king with his army. the strutting rooster, the he-goat, and a king whose army is with him. a strutting rooster, a he-goat, and a king secure against revolt.
If you've foolishly exalted yourself or if you've plotted evil, put your hand over your mouth. If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth. “If you play the fool and exalt yourself, or if you plan evil, clap your hand over your mouth!
Just as whipping milk produces butter, and twisting the nose causes bleeding, so also stirring up anger produces contention. For pressing milk produces curds, pressing the nose produces blood, and pressing anger produces strife. For as churning cream produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife.”
