1 Then Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God arrive with power. And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. 2 After six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There He was transfigured before them. 4 And Elijah and Moses appeared before them, talking with Jesus. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. Peter responded and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here; let’s make three tabernacles, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
6 For they were all so terrified that Peter did not know what else to say. For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. For he did not know how to reply; for they became terrified. (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him! And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud: “This is My beloved Son; listen to Him!” Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they saw no one with them except Jesus. And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. And suddenly they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus admonished them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. And He said to them, “Elijah does come first and he restores all things. And <i>yet</i> how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt? Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected?
13 But I tell you that Elijah has indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they wished, just as it is written about him. But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.” But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him. But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written of him.” But I tell you, Elijah has come, and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
14 When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. And when he came to <i>his</i> disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. 16 “What are you disputing with them? He asked. And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them? And He asked them, “What are you disputing with them?” “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.
17 Someone in the crowd replied, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a spirit that makes him mute. And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And one <i>person</i> from the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, because he has a spirit <i>that makes him</i> unable to speak; A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech.
18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked Your disciples to drive it out, but they were unable. And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground, and he foams <i>at the mouth</i> and grinds his teeth and becomes stiff. And I told Your disciples so that they would cast it out, but they could not <i>do it.</i>” Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. 19 “O unbelieving generation! Jesus replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to Me. And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.” He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. And He answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!” “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So they brought him, and seeing Jesus, the spirit immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. And they brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, the spirit immediately threw him into convulsions, and falling to the ground, he <i>began</i> rolling around and foaming <i>at the mouth.</i> So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has this been with him? “From childhood, he said. And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered.
22 “ It often throws him into the fire or into the water, trying to kill him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us. And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to kill him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!” “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “If You can? echoed Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes! And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things <i>are</i> possible to him that believeth. But Jesus said to him, “‘If You can?’ All things are possible for the one who believes.” “’If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
24 Immediately the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief! Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief!” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit, He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him again. And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, <i>Thou</i> dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again!” When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 After shrieking and convulsing him violently, the spirit came out. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, “He is dead. And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” And <i>the spirit</i> cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. And after crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and <i>the boy</i> became so much like a corpse that most <i>of them</i> said, “He is dead!” The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.”
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up. But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him, and he got up. 28 After Jesus had gone into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out? 29 Jesus answered, “This kind cannot come out, except by prayer.” And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.” And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything except prayer.” He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”
30 Going on from there, they passed through Galilee. But Jesus did not want anyone to know, They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know <i>it</i>. 31 because He was teaching His disciples. He told them, “ The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after three days He will rise. for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be handed over to men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.” because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.”
32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him about it. But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him. And sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
36 Then He had a little child stand among them. Taking the child in His arms, He said to them, And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, And He took a child and placed him among them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them,
37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes not only Me, but the One who sent Me. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. “Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.” “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
38 John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone else driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not accompany us. John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”
39 “Do not stop him, Jesus replied. “For no one who performs a miracle in My name can turn around and speak evil of Me. But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon <i>afterward</i> to speak evil of Me. “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me,
40 For whoever is not against us is for us. For the one who is not against us is for us. For he that is not against us is on our part. For the one who is not against us is for us. for whoever is not against us is for us.
41 Indeed, if anyone gives you even a cup of water because you bear the name of Christ, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward. For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as <i>followers</i> of Christ, truly I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward. Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.
42 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. And whosoever shall offend one of <i>these</i> little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it is better for him if a heavy millstone is hung around his neck and he is thrown into the sea. “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.
43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two hands and go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: And if your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life without a foot, than, having your two feet, to be thrown into hell. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: And if your eye is causing you to sin, throw it away; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be thrown into hell, And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,
48 where ‘their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.’ ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT EXTINGUISHED. where “’the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’
49 For everyone will be salted with fire. For everyone will be salted with fire. For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. For everyone will be salted with fire. Everyone will be salted with fire.
50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another. Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” Salt <i>is</i> good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty <i>again?</i> Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?
