1 And YHWH said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: No one shall defile himself for the dead among his people, And the LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, No one shall make himself unclean for the dead among his people, The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: ‘A priest must not make himself ceremonially unclean for any of his people who die,
2 except for his close relative who are near to him—his mother, and his father, and his son, and his daughter, and his brother, except for his closest relatives, his mother, his father, his son, his daughter, his brother, except for a close relative, such as his mother or father, his son or daughter, his brother,
3 and his sister, the virgin, who is near to him, who has not had a husband. He may defile himself for her. or his virgin sister (who is near to him because she has had no husband; for her he may make himself unclean). or an unmarried sister who is dependent on him since she has no husband—for her he may make himself unclean.
4 As a chief man he shall not defile himself among his people, to profane himself. He shall not make himself unclean as a husband among his people and so profane himself. He must not make himself unclean for people related to him by marriage, and so defile himself.
