| 5 | וַֽיַּאֲמִ֛ינוּ אַנְשֵׁ֥י נִֽינְוֵ֖ה בֵּֽאלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּקְרְאוּ־ צוֹם֙ וַיִּלְבְּשׁ֣וּ שַׂקִּ֔ים מִגְּדוֹלָ֖ם וְעַד־ קְטַנָּֽם׃ | And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. | The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. | |
| 6 | וַיִּגַּ֤ע הַדָּבָר֙ אֶל־ מֶ֣לֶך נִֽינְוֵ֔ה וַיָּ֙קָם֙ מִכִּסְא֔וֹ וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר אַדַּרְתּ֖וֹ מֵֽעָלָ֑יו וַיְכַ֣ס שַׂ֔ק וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב עַל־ הָאֵֽפֶר׃ | The word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. | When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. | |
