2 “How long will you go on saying such things? The words of your mouth are a blustering wind. “How long will you say these things, and the words of your mouth be a great wind? How long wilt thou speak these <i>things</i>? and <i>how long shall</i> the words of thy mouth <i>be like</i> a strong wind? “How long will you say these things, And the words of your mouth be a mighty wind? “How long will you say such things? Your words are a blustering wind.
3 Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right? Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert the right? Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice? “Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert what is right? Does God pervert justice? 4 When your children sinned against Him, He gave them over to their rebellion. If your children have sinned against him, he has delivered them into the hand of their transgression. If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression; “If your sons sinned against Him, Then He turned them over to the power of their wrongdoing. When your children sinned against him, he gave them over to the penalty of their sin.
5 But if you would earnestly seek God and ask the Almighty for mercy, If you will seek God and plead with the Almighty for mercy, If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; “If you will search for God And implore the compassion of the Almighty, But if you will seek God earnestly and plead with the Almighty,
6 if you are pure and upright, even now He will rouse Himself on your behalf and restore your righteous estate. if you are pure and upright, surely then he will rouse himself for you and restore your rightful habitation. If thou <i>wert</i> pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. If you are pure and upright, Surely now He will stir Himself for you And restore your righteous estate. if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your prosperous state.
7 Though your beginnings were modest, your latter days will flourish. And though your beginning was small, your latter days will be very great. Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. “Though your beginning was insignificant, Yet your end will increase greatly. Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.
8 Please inquire of past generations and consider the discoveries of their fathers. “For inquire, please, of bygone ages, and consider what the fathers have searched out. For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: “Please inquire of past generations, And consider the things searched out by their fathers. “Ask the former generation and find out what their ancestors learned,
9 For we were born yesterday and know nothing; our days on earth are but a shadow. For we are but of yesterday and know nothing, for our days on earth are a shadow. (For we <i>are but of</i> yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth <i>are</i> a shadow:) “For we are <i>only</i> of yesterday and know nothing, Because our days on earth are as a shadow. for we were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow.
10 Will they not teach you and tell you, and speak from their understanding? Will they not teach you and tell you and utter words out of their understanding? Shall not they teach thee, <i>and</i> tell thee, and utter words out of their heart? “Will they not teach you <i>and</i> tell you, And bring forth words from their minds? Will they not instruct you and tell you? Will they not bring forth words from their understanding?
11 Does papyrus grow where there is no marsh? Do reeds flourish without water? “Can papyrus grow where there is no marsh? Can reeds flourish where there is no water? Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? “Can papyrus grow tall without a marsh? Can the rushes grow without water? Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh? Can reeds thrive without water?
12 While the shoots are still uncut, they dry up quicker than grass. While yet in flower and not cut down, they wither before any other plant. Whilst it <i>is</i> yet in his greenness, <i>and</i> not cut down, it withereth before any <i>other</i> herb. “While it is still green <i>and</i> not cut down, Yet it withers before any <i>other</i> plant. While still growing and uncut, they wither more quickly than grass.
13 Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so the hope of the godless will perish. Such are the paths of all who forget God; the hope of the godless shall perish. So <i>are</i> the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: “So are the paths of all who forget God; And the hope of the godless will perish, Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so perishes the hope of the godless.
14 His confidence is fragile; his security is in a spider’s web. His confidence is severed, and his trust is a spider’s web. Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust <i>shall be</i> a spider's web. His confidence is fragile, And his trust is a spider’s web. What they trust in is fragile; what they rely on is a spider’s web.
15 He leans on his web, but it gives way; he holds fast, but it does not endure. He leans against his house, but it does not stand; he lays hold of it, but it does not endure. He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. “He depends on his house, but it does not stand; He holds on to it, but it does not endure. They lean on the web, but it gives way; they cling to it, but it does not hold.
16 He is a well-watered plant in the sunshine, spreading its shoots over the garden. He is a lush plant before the sun, and his shoots spread over his garden. He <i>is</i> green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. “He flourishes before the sun, And his shoots spread out over his garden. They are like a well-watered plant in the sunshine, spreading its shoots over the garden;
17 His roots wrap around the rock heap; he looks for a home among the stones. His roots entwine the stone heap; he looks upon a house of stones. His roots are wrapped about the heap, <i>and</i> seeth the place of stones. “His roots wrap around a rock pile, He grasps a house of stones. it entwines its roots around a pile of rocks and looks for a place among the stones.
18 If he is uprooted from his place, it will disown him, saying, ‘I never saw you.’ If he is destroyed from his place, then it will deny him, saying, ‘I have never seen you.’ If he destroy him from his place, then <i>it</i> shall deny him, <i>saying</i>, I have not seen thee. “If he is removed from his place, Then it will deny him, <i>saying,</i> ‘I never saw you.’ But when it is torn from its spot, that place disowns it and says, ‘I never saw you.’
19 Surely this is the joy of his way; yet others will spring from the dust. Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the soil others will spring. Behold, this <i>is</i> the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow. “Behold, this is the joy of His way; And out of the dust others will spring. Surely its life withers away, and from the soil other plants grow.
20 Behold, God does not reject the blameless, nor will He strengthen the hand of evildoers. “Behold, God will not reject a blameless man, nor take the hand of evildoers. Behold, God will not cast away a perfect <i>man</i>, neither will he help the evil doers: “Behold, God will not reject <i>a person of</i> integrity, Nor will He help evildoers. “Surely God does not reject one who is blameless or strengthen the hands of evildoers.
21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with a shout of joy. He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting. Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. “He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, And your lips with joyful shouting. He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.
22 Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more.” Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more.” They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought. “Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, And the tent of the wicked will no <i>longer</i> exist.” Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more.”
