1 And Job will answer and say, Then Job answered and said: Then Job replied:
2 How didst thou help to him of no strength? didst thou save the arm of no strength? “How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength! “How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm that is feeble!
3 How didst thou counsel to him of no wisdom? and didst thou make known help for abundance? How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge! What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed!
4 And with whom didst thou announce words? and whose breath came forth from thee? With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you? Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?
5 The shades shall tremble from under the waters, and their inhabitants. The dead tremble under the waters and their inhabitants. “The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.
6 Hades is naked before him, and no covering to destruction. Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. The realm of the dead is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered.
7 He stretched out the north upon emptiness, he hung up the earth upon nothing. He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing. He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.
8 He bound up the waters in his clouds, and the cloud was not rent under them. He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them. He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.
9 Holding fast the face of the throne, he spread his cloud upon it. He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud. He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it.
10 He marked out with a compass the law upon the face of the waters, even till the end of light with darkness. He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness.
11 The pillars of the heavens shall be shaken, and be astonished from his reproof. The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke. The pillars of the heavens quake, aghast at his rebuke.
12 By his power he caused the sea to tremble; by his understanding he smote through pride. By his power he stilled the sea; by his understanding he shattered Rahab. By his power he churned up the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces.
13 By his spirit he polished the heavens; his hand pierced the flat serpent. By his wind the heavens were made fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the gliding serpent.
14 Behold these the ends of his ways; how transient a sound of the word was heard in him! and the thunder of his might who shall understand? Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?” And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”
