1 Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are these charges true? And the high priest said, “Are these things so?” Then said the high priest, Are these things so? Now the high priest said, “Are these things so?” Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are these charges true?”
2 And Stephen declared: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, And Stephen said: “Brothers and fathers, hear me. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, And Stephen said, “Listen to me, brothers and fathers! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran, To this he replied: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Harran.
3 and told him, ‘Leave your country and your kindred and go to the land I will show you.’ and said to him, ‘Go out from your land and from your kindred and go into the land that I will show you.’ And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. and He said to him, ‘GO FROM YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR RELATIVES, AND COME TO THE LAND WHICH I WILL SHOW YOU.’ Leave your country and your people,’ God said, ‘and go to the land I will show you.’
4 So Abraham left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After his father died, God brought him out of that place and into this land where you are now living. Then he went out from the land of the Chaldeans and lived in Haran. And after his father died, God removed him from there into this land in which you are now living. Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. And from there, after his father died, <i>God</i> had him move to this country in which you are now living. “So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Harran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.
5 He gave him no inheritance here, not even a foot of ground. But God promised to give possession of the land to Abraham and his descendants, even though he did not yet have a child. Yet he gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot’s length, but promised to give it to him as a possession and to his offspring after him, though he had no child. And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not <i>so much as</i> to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when <i>as yet</i> he had no child. But He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot of ground, and <i>yet,</i> He promised that He would give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him, <i>even</i> though he had no child. 6 God told him that his descendants would be foreigners in a strange land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years. And God spoke to this effect—that his offspring would be sojourners in a land belonging to others, who would enslave them and afflict them four hundred years. And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat <i>them</i> evil four hundred years. But God spoke to this effect, that his DESCENDANTS WOULD BE STRANGERS IN A LAND THAT WAS NOT THEIRS, AND THEY WOULD ENSLAVE AND MISTREAT <i>THEM</i> FOR FOUR HUNDRED YEARS. God spoke to him in this way: ‘For four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated.
7 ‘But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, God said, ‘and afterward they will come forth and worship Me in this place.’ ‘But I will judge the nation that they serve,’ said God, ‘and after that they shall come out and worship me in this place.’ And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place. ‘AND WHATEVER NATION TO WHICH THEY ARE ENSLAVED I MYSELF WILL JUDGE,’ said God, ‘AND AFTER THAT THEY WILL COME OUT AND SERVE ME IN THIS PLACE.’ But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves,’ God said, ‘and afterward they will come out of that country and worship me in this place.’
8 Then God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision, and Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day. And Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs. And he gave him the covenant of circumcision. And so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs. And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so <i>Abraham</i> begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac <i>begat</i> Jacob; and Jacob <i>begat</i> the twelve patriarchs. And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so <i>Abraham</i> fathered Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac <i>fathered</i> Jacob, and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs. 9 Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. 10 and rescued him from all his troubles. He granted Joseph favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, who appointed him ruler over Egypt and all his household. and rescued him out of all his afflictions and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who made him ruler over Egypt and over all his household. And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. and rescued him from all his afflictions, and granted him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he made him governor over Egypt and his entire household. and rescued him from all his troubles. 12 When Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers on their first visit. But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers on their first visit. 15 So Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our fathers died. And Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, he and our fathers, So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers, And Jacob went down to Egypt, and he and our fathers died <i>there.</i> Then Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our ancestors died.
16 Their bones were carried back to Shechem and placed in the tomb that Abraham had bought from the sons of Hamor at Shechem for a price he paid in silver. and they were carried back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham had bought for a sum of silver from the sons of Hamor in Shechem. And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor <i>the father</i> of Sychem. 17 As the time drew near for God to fulfill His promise to Abraham, our people in Egypt increased greatly in number. “But as the time of the promise drew near, which God had granted to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, “But as the time of the promise which God had assured to Abraham was approaching, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt, “As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt had greatly increased.
18 Then another king, who knew nothing of Joseph, arose over Egypt. until there arose over Egypt another king who did not know Joseph. Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph. until ANOTHER KING AROSE OVER EGYPT WHO DID NOT KNOW JOSEPH. Then ‘a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.’
19 He exploited our people and oppressed our fathers, forcing them to abandon their infants so they would die. He dealt shrewdly with our race and forced our fathers to expose their infants, so that they would not be kept alive. The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live. It was he who shrewdly took advantage of our nation and mistreated our fathers in order that they would abandon their infants <i>in the Nile,</i> so that they would not survive. He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our ancestors by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die.
20 At that time Moses was born, and he was beautiful in the sight of God. For three months he was nurtured in his father’s house. At this time Moses was born; and he was beautiful in God’s sight. And he was brought up for three months in his father’s house, In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months: At this time Moses was born; and he was beautiful to God. He was nurtured for three months in his father’s home. “At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for by his family.
21 When he was set outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. and when he was exposed, Pharaoh’s daughter adopted him and brought him up as her own son. And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son. And after he had been put outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him away and nurtured him as her own son. 22 So Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action. And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds. And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. 24 And when he saw one of them being mistreated, Moses went to his defense and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian who was oppressing him. And seeing one of them being wronged, he defended the oppressed man and avenged him by striking down the Egyptian. And seeing one <i>of them</i> suffer wrong, he defended <i>him</i>, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: And when he saw one <i>of them</i> being treated unjustly, he defended and took vengeance for the oppressed man by <i>fatally</i> striking the Egyptian. He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian.
25 He assumed his brothers would understand that God was using him to deliver them, but they did not. He supposed that his brothers would understand that God was giving them salvation by his hand, but they did not understand. For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. And he thought that his brothers understood that God was granting them deliverance through him; but they did not understand. Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.
26 The next day he came upon two Israelites who were fighting, and he tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you mistreating each other? And on the following day he appeared to them as they were quarreling and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why do you wrong each other?’ And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? And on the following day he appeared to them as they were fighting each other, and he tried to reconcile them to peace, by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers, why are you injuring each other?’ The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?’
27 But the man who was abusing his neighbor pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us? But the man who was wronging his neighbor thrust him aside, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? But the one who was injuring his neighbor pushed him away, saying, ‘WHO MADE YOU A RULER AND JUDGE OVER US? “But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us?
28 Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday? YOU DO NOT INTEND TO KILL ME AS YOU KILLED THE EGYPTIAN YESTERDAY, DO YOU?’ Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’
29 At this remark, Moses fled to the land of Midian, where he lived as a foreigner and had two sons. At this retort Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons. Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons. At this remark, MOSES FLED AND BECAME A STRANGER IN THE LAND OF MIDIAN, where he fathered two sons. When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.
30 After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. “Now when forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush. And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. “After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in the flame of a burning thorn bush. “After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.
31 When Moses saw it, he marveled at the sight. 32 ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look. ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob.’ And Moses trembled and did not dare to look. <i>Saying</i>, I <i>am</i> the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. ‘I AM THE GOD OF YOUR FATHERS, THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND ISAAC, AND JACOB.’ Moses shook with fear and did not dare to look closely. I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.
33 Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground. But the LORD said to him, ‘REMOVE YOUR SANDALS FROM YOUR FEET, FOR THE PLACE ON WHICH YOU ARE STANDING IS HOLY GROUND. “Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.
34 I have indeed seen the oppression of My people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt.’ I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. I HAVE CERTAINLY SEEN THE OPPRESSION OF MY PEOPLE WHO ARE IN EGYPT, AND HAVE HEARD THEIR GROANING, AND I HAVE COME DOWN TO RESCUE THEM; AND NOW COME, I WILL SEND YOU TO EGYPT.’ I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’
35 This Moses, whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be their ruler and redeemer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush. “This Moses, whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—this man God sent as both ruler and redeemer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush. This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send <i>to be</i> a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. “This Moses whom they disowned, saying, ‘WHO MADE YOU A RULER AND A JUDGE?’ is the one whom God sent <i>to be</i> both a ruler and a deliverer with the help of the angel who appeared to him in the thorn bush. “This is the same Moses they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36 He led them out and performed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and for forty years in the wilderness. This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in Egypt and at the Red Sea and in the wilderness for forty years. He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. 37 This is the same Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.’ This is the Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brothers.’ This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel, ‘GOD WILL RAISE UP FOR YOU A PROPHET LIKE ME FROM YOUR COUNTRYMEN.’ “This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’
38 He was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. And he received living words to pass on to us. This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. He received living oracles to give to us. This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and <i>with</i> our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: This is the one who was in the assembly in the wilderness together with the angel who spoke to him <i>at length</i> on Mount Sinai, and <i>who was with</i> our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to you. He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.
39 But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt. 40 They said to Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us! As for this Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.’ saying to Aaron, ‘Make for us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who led us out from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for <i>as for</i> this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. saying to Aaron, ‘MAKE US A GOD WHO WILL GO BEFORE US; FOR THIS MOSES WHO LED US OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT—WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM.’ They told Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who led us out of Egypt—we don’t know what has happened to him!’
41 At that time they made a calf and offered a sacrifice to the idol, rejoicing in the works of their hands. But God turned away and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: “‘Did you bring to me slain beasts and sacrifices, during the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel? Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices <i>by the space of</i> forty years in the wilderness? But God turned away and gave them over to serve the heavenly lights; as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘YOU DID NOT OFFER ME VICTIMS AND SACRIFICES FOR FORTY YEARS IN THE WILDERNESS, DID YOU, HOUSE OF ISRAEL? But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the sun, moon and stars. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets: “’Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, people of Israel?
43 You have taken along the tabernacle of Molech and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Babylon.’ You took up the tent of Moloch and the star of your god Rephan, the images that you made to worship; and I will send you into exile beyond Babylon.’ Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon. YOU ALSO TOOK ALONG THE TABERNACLE OF MOLOCH AND THE STAR OF YOUR GOD ROMPHA, THE IMAGES WHICH YOU MADE TO WORSHIP. I ALSO WILL DEPORT YOU BEYOND BABYLON.’ You have taken up the tabernacle of Molek and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile’ beyond Babylon.
44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of the Testimony with them in the wilderness. It was constructed exactly as God had directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen. “Our fathers had the tent of witness in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses directed him to make it, according to the pattern that he had seen. After receiving the tabernacle, our ancestors under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David,
46 who found favor in the sight of God and asked to provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob. who found favor in the sight of God and asked to find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob. Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. 48 However, the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says: Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says, Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, However, the Most High does not dwell in <i>houses</i> made by <i>human</i> hands; as the prophet says: “However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
49 ‘ Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me, says the Lord, or where will My place of repose be? “‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest? Heaven <i>is</i> my throne, and earth <i>is</i> my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what <i>is</i> the place of my rest? ‘HEAVEN IS MY THRONE, AND THE EARTH IS THE FOOTSTOOL OF MY FEET; WHAT KIND OF HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME?’ says the Lord, ‘OR WHAT PLACE IS THERE FOR MY REST? “’Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord. Or where will my resting place be?
50 Has not My hand made all these things?’ Did not my hand make all these things?’ Hath not my hand made all these things? ‘WAS IT NOT MY HAND THAT MADE ALL THESE THINGS?’ Has not my hand made all these things?’
51 You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit, just as your fathers did. “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers <i>did</i>, so <i>do</i> ye. “You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did. “You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!
52 Which of the prophets did your fathers fail to persecute? They even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One. And now you are His betrayers and murderers— Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, and you have now become betrayers and murderers of Him; Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him—
53 you who received the law ordained by angels, yet have not kept it. you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.” Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept <i>it</i>. you who received the Law as ordained by angels, and <i>yet</i> did not keep it.” you who have received the law that was given through angels but have not obeyed it.”
54 On hearing this, the members of the Sanhedrin were enraged, and they gnashed their teeth at him. Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him. When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with <i>their</i> teeth. Now when they heard this, they were infuriated, and they <i>began</i> gnashing their teeth at him. When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him.
55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
56 “Look, he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
57 At this they covered their ears, cried out in a loud voice, and rushed together at him. But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him. Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, But they shouted with loud voices, and covered their ears and rushed at him with one mind. At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,
58 They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile the witnesses laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And cast <i>him</i> out of the city, and stoned <i>him</i>: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. When they had driven him out of the city, they <i>began</i> stoning <i>him;</i> and the witnesses laid aside their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul. dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 While they were stoning him, Stephen appealed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” And they stoned Stephen, calling upon <i>God</i>, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. They <i>went on</i> stoning Stephen as he called on <i>the Lord</i> and said, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!” While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
60 Falling on his knees, he cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” Having said this, he fell asleep. Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
