1 Now about the service to the saints, there is no need for me to write to you. Now it is superfluous for me to write to you about the ministry for the saints, For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: For it is superfluous for me to write to you about this ministry to the saints; There is no need for me to write to you about this service to the Lord’s people.
2 For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting to the Macedonians that since last year you in Achaia were prepared to give. And your zeal has stirred most of them to do likewise. for I know your readiness, of which I boast about you to the people of Macedonia, saying that Achaia has been ready since last year. And your zeal has stirred up most of them. For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. for I know your willingness, of which I boast about you to the Macedonians, <i>namely,</i> that Achaia has been prepared since last year, and your zeal has stirred up most of them. For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action.
3 But I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you in this matter should not prove empty, but that you will be prepared, just as I said. But I am sending the brothers so that our boasting about you may not prove empty in this matter, so that you may be ready, as I said you would be. Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready: But I have sent the brothers, in order that our boasting about you may not prove empty in this case, so that, as I was saying, you will be prepared; But I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you in this matter should not prove hollow, but that you may be ready, as I said you would be.
4 Otherwise, if any Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we— to say nothing of you— would be ashamed of having been so confident. Otherwise, if some Macedonians come with me and find that you are not ready, we would be humiliated—to say nothing of you—for being so confident. Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting. otherwise, if <i>any</i> Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to mention you—would be put to shame by this confidence. For if any Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to say anything about you—would be ashamed of having been so confident.
5 So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you beforehand and make arrangements for the bountiful gift you had promised. This way, your gift will be prepared generously and not begrudgingly. So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance for the gift you have promised, so that it may be ready as a willing gift, not as an exaction. Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as <i>a matter of</i> bounty, and not as <i>of</i> covetousness. So I considered it necessary to urge the brothers that they go on ahead to you and arrange in advance your previously promised generous gift, that the same would be ready as a generous gift, and not as <i>one grudgingly given due to</i> greediness. So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you in advance and finish the arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a generous gift, not as one grudgingly given.
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. But this <i>I say</i>, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Now <i>I say</i> this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows generously will also reap generously. Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
7 Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not out of regret or compulsion. For God loves a cheerful giver. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, <i>so let him give</i>; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. Each one <i>must do</i> just as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. And God <i>is</i> able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all <i>things</i>, may abound to every good work: And God is able to make all grace overflow to you, so that, always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
9 As it is written: “He has scattered abroad His gifts to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. as it is written: “HE SCATTERED ABROAD, HE GAVE TO THE POOR, HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS ENDURES FOREVER.” As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”
10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your store of seed and will increase the harvest of your righteousness. He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 12 For this ministry of service is not only supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanksgiving to God. For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.
13 Because of the proof this ministry provides, the saints will glorify God for your obedient confession of the gospel of Christ, and for the generosity of your contribution to them and to all the others. By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for <i>your</i> liberal distribution unto them, and unto all <i>men</i>; Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for <i>your</i> obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all, Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.
14 And their prayers for you will express their affection for you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. while they also, by prayer on your behalf, yearn for you because of the surpassing grace of God in you. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.
15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! Thanks <i>be</i> unto God for his unspeakable gift. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
