1 THEN Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on mount Moriah, in the place which David his father had prepared in the threshing floor which he had bought from Aran the Jebusite. Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.
2 And he began to build the temple in the second month of the fourth year of his reign. He began to build in the second month of the fourth year of his reign. He began building on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.
3 Now these are the measurements which Solomon measured for the building of the house of the LORD: The length of the house by the measure of the sanctuary was sixty cubits, and its height thirty cubits, and its breadth twenty cubits. These are Solomon’s measurements for building the house of God: the length, in cubits of the old standard, was sixty cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits. The foundation Solomon laid for building the temple of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide (using the cubit of the old standard).
4 And he made a porch in the front thereof; the length of it was the same as the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and its height twenty cubits; and he overlaid it within with pure gold. The vestibule in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits long, equal to the width of the house, and its height was 120 cubits. He overlaid it on the inside with pure gold. The portico at the front of the temple was twenty cubits long across the width of the building and twenty cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.
5 And the greater house be ceiled with cypress wood, which he overlaid with fine gold, and he carved on it the likeness of palm trees and flowers. The nave he lined with cypress and covered it with fine gold and made palms and chains on it. He paneled the main hall with juniper and covered it with fine gold and decorated it with palm tree and chain designs.
6 And he adorned the house with precious stones for beauty; and he overlaid all of it with fine gold. He adorned the house with settings of precious stones. The gold was gold of Parvaim. He adorned the temple with precious stones. And the gold he used was gold of Parvaim.
7 He overlaid also the house, from the front of the porch and its walls and its door posts, with fine gold, and he carved on it the likeness of palm trees and flowers. So he lined the house with gold—its beams, its thresholds, its walls, and its doors—and he carved cherubim on the walls. He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls.
8 And he made the sanctuary of the holy of holies; its length was the same as the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and its breadth twenty cubits; and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents. And he made the Most Holy Place. Its length, corresponding to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and its breadth was twenty cubits. He overlaid it with 600 talents of fine gold. He built the Most Holy Place, its length corresponding to the width of the temple—twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. He overlaid the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold.
9 And he also overlaid the altar with fine gold. The weight of gold for the nails was fifty shekels. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold. The gold nails weighed fifty shekels. He also overlaid the upper parts with gold.
10 In the most holy house he made two cherubim of solid material, and overlaid them with gold. In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of wood and overlaid them with gold. For the Most Holy Place he made a pair of sculptured cherubim and overlaid them with gold.
11 And the wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long; one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub. The wings of the cherubim together extended twenty cubits: one wing of the one, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and its other wing, of five cubits, touched the wing of the other cherub; The total wingspan of the cherubim was twenty cubits. One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long and touched the temple wall, while its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the other cherub.
12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub. and of this cherub, one wing, of five cubits, touched the wall of the house, and the other wing, also of five cubits, was joined to the wing of the first cherub. Similarly one wing of the second cherub was five cubits long and touched the other temple wall, and its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the first cherub.
13 The wings of these cherubim were spread forth twenty cubits; they stood on their feet and their faces were inward. The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits. The cherubim stood on their feet, facing the nave. The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, facing the main hall.
14 And he made the veil of blue and purple and crimson and fine linen, and wrought cherubim on it, and placed the ark in it. And he made the veil of blue and purple and crimson fabrics and fine linen, and he worked cherubim on it. He made the curtain of blue, purple and crimson yarn and fine linen, with cherubim worked into it.
15 Also he made in front of the great house two pillars, eighteen cubits long, and the capitals that were on the top of each of them were five cubits high. In front of the house he made two pillars thirty-five cubits high, with a capital of five cubits on the top of each. For the front of the temple he made two pillars, which together were thirty-five cubits long, each with a capital five cubits high.
16 And he made chains, fifty cubits long, and put them on the tops of the pillars; and made a hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains. He made chains like a necklace and put them on the tops of the pillars, and he made a hundred pomegranates and put them on the chains. He made interwoven chains and put them on top of the pillars. He also made a hundred pomegranates and attached them to the chains.
17 And he set up the two pillars in front of the temple, one on the right hand and the other on the left; and he called the name of that which he set on the right hand, Jachin, and the name of that on the left, Boaz. He set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the south, the other on the north; that on the south he called Jachin, and that on the north Boaz. He erected the pillars in the front of the temple, one to the south and one to the north. The one to the south he named Jakin and the one to the north Boaz.
