1 SO I, my brethren, could not converse with you as with spiritual men, but as with worldly men and even as with little children in Christ. But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ.
2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto you were unable to eat it, and even now you are not ready for it; I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready, I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
3 Because you are still worldly: for as long as there is among you envying and strife and divisions, are you not worldly and still following after the material things? for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way? You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans?
4 For while one says, I am a follower of Paul; and another, I am a follower of Apollos; are you not worldly? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human? For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings?
5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you were converted; each one is gifted according as the LORD gave to him. What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.
7 So then neither he who plants, nor he who waters deserves the credit; but God who gives the increase. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
8 Thus the planter and the waterer are equal: and each one shall receive his own wages according to his own labor. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor.
9 For we work together with God: you are God’s work and God’s building. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds upon it. But let every man be careful how he builds thereon. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that which is already laid, which is Jesus Christ. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build on this foundation gold, silver, or precious stones, or wood, or hay, or stubble; Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
13 Every man’s work shall be plainly seen: for the light of day shall expose it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall test every man’s work and show of what sort it is. each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
14 And the builder whose work survives shall receive his reward. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.
15 And the one whose work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be rescued, even as one who has been saved from the fire. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.
16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?
17 And whoever defiles the temple of God, God will destroy; for the temple of God is holy, and that temple is you. If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.
18 Let no man deceive himself. Whoever among you thinks he is wise in this world, let him consider himself a fool so that he may become wise. Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, He catches the wise in their own craftiness. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness|;
20 And again, The LORD knows that the thoughts of the wise are vain. and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”
21 Therefore, let no man boast about men. For all things are yours; So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours,
22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all things are yours; whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours,
23 And you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s. and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.
