1 CONCERNING the divisions of the porters whom David the king appointed as guards: Meshelemiah of the sons of Joseph. As for the divisions of the gatekeepers: of the Korahites, Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph. The divisions of the gatekeepers: From the Korahites: Meshelemiah son of Kore, one of the sons of Asaph.
2 And Meshelemiah had seven male children: namely, Zechariah his first-born, Jediael the second, Zechariah the third, Nathanael the fourth, And Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth, Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth,
3 Elam the fifth, Johanan the sixth, Jadie the seventh. Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, Eliehoenai the seventh. Elam the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth and Eliehoenai the seventh.
4 Moreover, the sons of Ober-edom were Shemaiah his first-born, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Shabar the fourth, and Matlal the fifth, And Obed-edom had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sachar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth, Obed-Edom also had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sakar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,
5 Gemaiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Pali the eighth; for the LORD blessed him. Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peullethai the eighth, for God blessed him. Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh and Peullethai the eighth. (For God had blessed Obed-Edom.)
6 Also to Shemaiah his son were sons born, who ruled over the house of their fathers; for they were mighty men of valour. Also to his son Shemaiah were sons born who were rulers in their fathers’ houses, for they were men of great ability. Obed-Edom’s son Shemaiah also had sons, who were leaders in their father’s family because they were very capable men.
7 The sons of Shemaiah: Gathael, Cadhael, Obedael, and Zechariah, the mighty man, and Elijah and Semachiah. The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad, whose brothers were able men, Elihu and Semachiah. The sons of Shemaiah: Othni, Rephael, Obed and Elzabad; his relatives Elihu and Semakiah were also able men.
8 All these were of the sons of Ober-edom, they and their sons and their brethren, able men with strength for the service of the sanctuary, sixty-two sons of Ober-edom. All these were of the sons of Obed-edom with their sons and brothers, able men qualified for the service; sixty-two of Obed-edom. All these were descendants of Obed-Edom; they and their sons and their relatives were capable men with the strength to do the work—descendants of Obed-Edom, 62 in all.
9 And Meshelemiah's eldest son had sons, mighty men, eighteen. And Meshelemiah had sons and brothers, able men, eighteen. Meshelemiah had sons and relatives, who were able men—18 in all.
10 Also Hasah, of the children of Merari, had sons, mighty men; his eldest son died, and his father made the second the chief, but he did not call him by the name of the eldest. And Hosah, of the sons of Merari, had sons: Shimri the chief (for though he was not the firstborn, his father made him chief), Hosah the Merarite had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the firstborn, his father had appointed him the first),
11 Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth; all the sons and brethren of Hasah were thirteen. Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth: all the sons and brothers of Hosah were thirteen. Hilkiah the second, Tabaliah the third and Zechariah the fourth. The sons and relatives of Hosah were 13 in all.
12 Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having watch one opposite another, to minister in the house of the LORD. These divisions of the gatekeepers, corresponding to their chief men, had duties, just as their brothers did, ministering in the house of the LORD. These divisions of the gatekeepers, through their leaders, had duties for ministering in the temple of the LORD, just as their relatives had.
13 And they cast lots, the least as well as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate. And they cast lots by fathers’ houses, small and great alike, for their gates. Lots were cast for each gate, according to their families, young and old alike.
14 And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward. The lot for the east fell to Shelemiah. They cast lots also for his son Zechariah, a shrewd counselor, and his lot came out for the north. The lot for the East Gate fell to Shelemiah. Then lots were cast for his son Zechariah, a wise counselor, and the lot for the North Gate fell to him.
15 To Ober-edom southward; and to his sons the porches. Obed-edom’s came out for the south, and to his sons was allotted the gatehouse. The lot for the South Gate fell to Obed-Edom, and the lot for the storehouse fell to his sons.
16 To Shuppim and Hasah the lot fell westward, as far as the gate which is made in the road that goes up, watch opposite watch. For Shuppim and Hosah it came out for the west, at the gate of Shallecheth on the road that goes up. Watch corresponded to watch. The lots for the West Gate and the Shalleketh Gate on the upper road fell to Shuppim and Hosah. Guard was alongside of guard:
17 Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and for the porches two by two. On the east there were six each day, on the north four each day, on the south four each day, as well as two and two at the gatehouse. There were six Levites a day on the east, four a day on the north, four a day on the south and two at a time at the storehouse.
18 At Parbar westward, four at the road and two at Parbar. And for the colonnade on the west there were four at the road and two at the colonnade. As for the court to the west, there were four at the road and two at the court itself.
19 These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Korah and among the sons of Merari. These were the divisions of the gatekeepers among the Korahites and the sons of Merari. These were the divisions of the gatekeepers who were descendants of Korah and Merari.
20 And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the storehouses of the house of God and over the storehouses of the dedicated things. And of the Levites, Ahijah had charge of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries of the dedicated gifts. Their fellow Levites were in charge of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries for the dedicated things.
21 The sons of Laadan: of the descendants of Gershon, Laadan, chiefs of the fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, was Nahli. The sons of Ladan, the sons of the Gershonites belonging to Ladan, the heads of the fathers’ houses belonging to Ladan the Gershonite: Jehieli. The descendants of Ladan, who were Gershonites through Ladan and who were heads of families belonging to Ladan the Gershonite, were Jehieli,
22 The sons of Nahli: Zetham and Joel his brother who were over the storehouses of the house of the LORD. The sons of Jehieli, Zetham, and Joel his brother, were in charge of the treasuries of the house of the LORD. the sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the treasuries of the temple of the LORD.
23 Of the Amramites and the Izharites, the Hebronites and the Uzzielites, Of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites— From the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites and the Uzzielites:
24 Samuel the son of Gershon, the son of Moses, was chief in charge of the storehouses. and Shebuel the son of Gershom, son of Moses, was chief officer in charge of the treasuries. Shubael, a descendant of Gershom son of Moses, was the official in charge of the treasuries.
25 And his brother Eliezer, Rehabiah his son and Isaiah his son and Joram his son and Zichri his son and Shelomith his son. His brothers: from Eliezer were his son Rehabiah, and his son Jeshaiah, and his son Joram, and his son Zichri, and his son Shelomoth. His relatives through Eliezer: Rehabiah his son, Jeshaiah his son, Joram his son, Zikri his son and Shelomith his son.
26 This Shelomith and his brothers were in charge of all storehouses of the dedicated things, which David the king, the chiefs of the fathers, the commanders of the thousands and the hundreds, and the commanders of the army had dedicated. This Shelomoth and his brothers were in charge of all the treasuries of the dedicated gifts that David the king and the heads of the fathers’ houses and the officers of the thousands and the hundreds and the commanders of the army had dedicated. Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of all the treasuries for the things dedicated by King David, by the heads of families who were the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and by the other army commanders.
27 From spoils won in battles they dedicated some to maintain the house of the LORD. From spoil won in battles they dedicated gifts for the maintenance of the house of the LORD. Some of the plunder taken in battle they dedicated for the repair of the temple of the LORD.
28 And all that Samuel the seer and Saul the son of Kish and Abner the son of Ner and Joab the son of Zuriah had dedicated; and whoever had dedicated anything, it was under the charge of Shelomith and of his brothers. Also all that Samuel the seer and Saul the son of Kish and Abner the son of Ner and Joab the son of Zeruiah had dedicated—all dedicated gifts were in the care of Shelomoth and his brothers. And everything dedicated by Samuel the seer and by Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner and Joab son of Zeruiah, and all the other dedicated things were in the care of Shelomith and his relatives.
29 Of the Izharites: Chenaniah and his sons were for the secular business of Israel, as scribes and judges. Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were appointed to external duties for Israel, as officers and judges. From the Izharites: Kenaniah and his sons were assigned duties away from the temple, as officials and judges over Israel.
30 And of the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, one thousand and seven hundred, were officers over the Israelites on this side of Jordan westward, in charge of all the business of the LORD and in the service of the king. Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers, 1,700 men of ability, had the oversight of Israel westward of the Jordan for all the work of the LORD and for the service of the king. From the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his relatives—seventeen hundred able men—were responsible in Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the LORD and for the king’s service.
31 Among the Hebronites was Neriah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of their fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead. Of the Hebronites, Jerijah was chief of the Hebronites of whatever genealogy or fathers’ houses. (In the fortieth year of David’s reign search was made and men of great ability among them were found at Jazer in Gilead.) As for the Hebronites, Jeriah was their chief according to the genealogical records of their families. In the fortieth year of David’s reign a search was made in the records, and capable men among the Hebronites were found at Jazer in Gilead.
32 And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chiefs of the fathers, whom King David made chiefs over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God and the affairs of the king. King David appointed him and his brothers, 2,700 men of ability, heads of fathers’ houses, to have the oversight of the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of the Manassites for everything pertaining to God and for the affairs of the king. Jeriah had twenty-seven hundred relatives, who were able men and heads of families, and King David put them in charge of the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and for the affairs of the king.
