Isaiah 27
NLT Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationInternational Standard Version
In that day the LORD will take his terrible, swift sword and punish Leviathan, the swiftly moving serpent, the coiling, writhing serpent. He will kill the dragon of the sea.1At that time, with his fierce, mighty, and powerful sword, the LORD will punish the gliding serpent Leviathan—the coiling serpent Leviathan—and he will kill the dragon that's in the sea.
“In that day, sing about the fruitful vineyard.2At that time, "A fermenting vineyard— sing about it!
I, the LORD, will watch over it, watering it carefully. Day and night I will watch so no one can harm it.3I, the LORD, watch over it And I water it continuously. I guard it night and day so no one can harm it.
My anger will be gone. If I find briers and thorns growing, I will attack them; I will burn them up—4I am not angry. If only the vineyard could give me briers and thorns to battle, I would march against it, and I would burn it all up.
unless they turn to me for help. Let them make peace with me; yes, let them make peace with me.”5Or else let it lay claim to my protection; let it make peace with me, yes, let it make peace with me."
The time is coming when Jacob’s descendants will take root. Israel will bud and blossom and fill the whole earth with fruit!6In times to come, Jacob will take root, and Israel will blossom, sprout shoots, and fill the whole world with fruit.
Has the LORD struck Israel as he struck her enemies? Has he punished her as he punished them?7Has the LORD struck them down, just as he struck down those who struck them? Or have they been killed, just as their killers were killed?
No, but he exiled Israel to call her to account. She was exiled from her land as though blown away in a storm from the east.8Measure by measure, in their exile you contended with them; with his fierce blast he removed them, as on a day when the east wind blows.
The LORD did this to purge Israel’s wickedness, to take away all her sin. As a result, all the pagan altars will be crushed to dust. No Asherah pole or pagan shrine will be left standing.9By this, then, Jacob's guilt will be atoned for, and this will be the full harvest that comes from the removal of his sin: when he makes all the altar stones like pulverized chalkstones, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing.
The fortified towns will be silent and empty, the houses abandoned, the streets overgrown with weeds. Calves will graze there, chewing on twigs and branches.10For the fortified city stands desolate, a settlement abandoned and forsaken like the desert; calves graze there, and there they lie down and strip bare its branches.
The people are like the dead branches of a tree, broken off and used for kindling beneath the cooking pots. Israel is a foolish and stupid nation, for its people have turned away from God. Therefore, the one who made them will show them no pity or mercy.11When its branches are dry, they are broken off, and women come and kindle fires with them, since this is a people who show no consideration. That is why the One who made them shows them no compassion; the One who created them shows them no mercy.
Yet the time will come when the LORD will gather them together like handpicked grain. One by one he will gather them—from the Euphrates River in the east to the Brook of Egypt in the west.12At that time, the LORD will winnow grain from the Euphrates River channel to the Wadi of Egypt, and you will be gathered in one by one, O people of Israel.
In that day the great trumpet will sound. Many who were dying in exile in Assyria and Egypt will return to Jerusalem to worship the LORD on his holy mountain.13Furthermore, at that time, a great trumpet will be sounded, and those who were perishing in the land of Assyria and those who had been expelled to the land of Egypt will come and worship the LORD on his holy mountain at Jerusalem.
