New King James Version | New Living Translation |
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— | 1We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. |
the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— | 2This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. |
that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. | 3We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. |
And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. | 4We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy. Living in the Light |
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. | 5This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. |
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. | 6So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. |
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. | 7But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. |
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. | 8If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. |
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. | 9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. |
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. | 10If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. |
