| 2“Everyone of the children of Israel shall camp by his own standard, beside the emblems of his father’s house; they shall camp some distance from the tabernacle of meeting. | 2"Every one of the Israelites must camp under his standard with the emblems of his family; they must camp at some distance around the tent of meeting. |
| 3On the east side, toward the rising of the sun, those of the standard of the forces with Judah shall camp according to their armies; and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be the leader of the children of Judah.” | 3"Now those who will be camping on the east, toward the sunrise, are the divisions of the camp of Judah under their standard. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab. |
| 4And his army was numbered at seventy-four thousand six hundred. | 4Those numbered in his division are 74,600. |
| 5“Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar, and Nethanel the son of Zuar shall be the leader of the children of Issachar.” | 5Those who will be camping next to them are the tribe of Issachar. The leader of the people of Issachar is Nethanel son of Zuar. |
| 6And his army was numbered at fifty-four thousand four hundred. | 6Those numbered in his division are 54,400. |
| 7“Then comes the tribe of Zebulun, and Eliab the son of Helon shall be the leader of the children of Zebulun.” | 7Next will be the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon. |
| 8And his army was numbered at fifty-seven thousand four hundred. | 8Those numbered in his division are 57,400. |
| 9“All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces with Judah, one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred—these shall break camp first. | 9All those numbered of the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, are 186,400. They will travel at the front. |
| 10“On the south side shall be the standard of the forces with Reuben according to their armies, and the leader of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur.” | 10"On the south will be the divisions of the camp of Reuben under their standard. The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur. |
| 11And his army was numbered at forty-six thousand five hundred. | 11Those numbered in his division are 46,500. |
| 12“Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Simeon, and the leader of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.” | 12Those who will be camping next to them are the tribe of Simeon. The leader of the people of Simeon is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai. |
| 13And his army was numbered at fifty-nine thousand three hundred. | 13Those numbered in his division are 59,300. |
| 14“Then comes the tribe of Gad, and the leader of the children of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of Reuel.” | 14Next will be the tribe of Gad. The leader of the people of Gad is Eliasaph son of Deuel. |
| 15And his army was numbered at forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty. | 15Those numbered in his division are 45,650. |
| 16“All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces with Reuben, one hundred and fifty-one thousand four hundred and fifty—they shall be the second to break camp. | 16All those numbered of the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, are 151,450. They will travel second. |
| 17“And the tabernacle of meeting shall move out with the camp of the Levites in the middle of the camps; as they camp, so they shall move out, everyone in his place, by their standards. | 17"Then the tent of meeting with the camp of the Levites will travel in the middle of the camps. They will travel in the same order as they camped, each in his own place under his standard. |
| 18“On the west side shall be the standard of the forces with Ephraim according to their armies, and the leader of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.” | 18"On the west will be the divisions of the camp of Ephraim under their standard. The leader of the people of Ephraim is Elishama son of Amihud. |
| 19And his army was numbered at forty thousand five hundred. | 19Those numbered in his division are 40,500. |
| 20“Next to him comes the tribe of Manasseh, and the leader of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.” | 20Next to them will be the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur. |
| 21And his army was numbered at thirty-two thousand two hundred. | 21Those numbered in his division are 32,200. |
| 22“Then comes the tribe of Benjamin, and the leader of the children of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni.” | 22Next will be the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the people of Benjamin is Abidan son of Gideoni. |
| 23And his army was numbered at thirty-five thousand four hundred. | 23Those numbered in his division are 35,400. |
| 24“All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces with Ephraim, one hundred and eight thousand one hundred—they shall be the third to break camp. | 24All those numbered of the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions, are 108,100. They will travel third. |
| 25“The standard of the forces with Dan shall be on the north side according to their armies, and the leader of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.” | 25"On the north will be the divisions of the camp of Dan, under their standards. The leader of the people of Dan is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. |
| 26And his army was numbered at sixty-two thousand seven hundred. | 26Those numbered in his division are 62,700. |
| 27“Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Asher, and the leader of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ocran.” | 27Those who will be camping next to them are the tribe of Asher. The leader of the people of Asher is Pagiel son of Ocran. |
| 28And his army was numbered at forty-one thousand five hundred. | 28Those numbered in his division are 41,500. |
| 29“Then comes the tribe of Naphtali, and the leader of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan.” | 29Next will be the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the people of Naphtali is Ahira son of Enan. |
| 30And his army was numbered at fifty-three thousand four hundred. | 30Those numbered in his division are 53,400. |
| 31“All who were numbered of the forces with Dan, one hundred and fifty-seven thousand six hundred—they shall break camp last, with their standards.” | 31All those numbered of the camp of Dan are 157,600. They will travel last, under their standards." |
| 32These are the ones who were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses. All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. | 32These are the Israelites, numbered according to their families. All those numbered in the camps, by their divisions, are 603,550. |
| 33But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel, just as the LORD commanded Moses. | 33But the Levites were not numbered among the other Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses. |
| 34Thus the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses; so they camped by their standards and so they broke camp, each one by his family, according to their fathers’ houses. | 34So the Israelites did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses; that is the way they camped under their standards, and that is the way they traveled, each with his clan and family. |
