New King James Version | NET Bible |
Then the LORD said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans.” | 1The LORD said to me, "Go, show love to your wife again, even though she loves another man and continually commits adultery. Likewise, the LORD loves the Israelites although they turn to other gods and love to offer raisin cakes to idols." |
So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley. | 2So I paid fifteen shekels of silver and about seven bushels of barley to purchase her. |
And I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man—so, too, will I be toward you.” | 3Then I told her, "You must live with me many days; you must not commit adultery or have sexual intercourse with another man, and I also will wait for you." |
For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. | 4For the Israelites must live many days without a king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred fertility pillar, without ephod or idols. |
Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days. | 5Afterward, the Israelites will turn and seek the LORD their God and their Davidic king. Then they will submit to the LORD in fear and receive his blessings in the future. |
