Job 26
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
Then Job replied: 1Then Job answered and said:
"How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the person who has no strength! 2“How you have helped him who has no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength!
How you have advised the one without wisdom, and abundantly revealed your insight! 3How you have counseled him who has no wisdom, and plentifully declared sound knowledge!
To whom did you utter these words? And whose spirit has come forth from your mouth? 4With whose help have you uttered words, and whose breath has come out from you?
"The dead tremble--those beneath the waters and all that live in them. 5The dead tremble under the waters and their inhabitants.
The underworld is naked before God; the place of destruction lies uncovered. 6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth on nothing. 7He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.
He locks the waters in his clouds, and the clouds do not burst with the weight of them. 8He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not split open under them.
He conceals the face of the full moon, shrouding it with his clouds. 9He covers the face of the full moon and spreads over it his cloud.
He marks out the horizon on the surface of the waters as a boundary between light and darkness. 10He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.
The pillars of the heavens tremble and are amazed at his rebuke. 11The pillars of heaven tremble and are astounded at his rebuke.
By his power he stills the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab the great sea monster to pieces. 12By his power he stilled the sea; by his understanding he shattered Rahab.
By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. 13By his wind the heavens were made fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
Indeed, these are but the outer fringes of his ways! How faint is the whisper we hear of him! But who can understand the thunder of his power?" 14Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?”
