King James Bible | English Standard Version |
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. | 1But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. |
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, | 2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, |
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, | 3heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, |
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; | 4treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. | 5having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. |
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, | 6For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, |
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 7always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. |
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. | 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. |
But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. | 9But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men. |
But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, | 10You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, |
Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. | 11my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. |
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. | 12Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, |
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. | 13while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. |
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; | 14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it |
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. | 15and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. |
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: | 16All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, |
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. | 17that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. |
