But know this: Hard times will come in the last days. | 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. |
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, demeaning, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, | 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, |
unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good, | 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, |
traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, | 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; |
holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people. | 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. |
For among them are those who worm their way into households and deceive gullible women overwhelmed by sins and led astray by a variety of passions, | 6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, |
always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. | 7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth. They are men who are corrupt in mind and worthless in regard to the faith. | 8Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. |
But they will not make further progress, for their foolishness will be clear to all, as was the foolishness of Jannes and Jambres. | 9But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. |
But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and endurance, | 10But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, |
along with the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured--and yet the Lord rescued me from them all. | 11Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. |
In fact, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. | 12Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. |
Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving and being deceived. | 13But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. |
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you, | 14But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; |
and you know that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. | 15And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, | 16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: |
so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. | 17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. |
