But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come.1But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,2For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good,3unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,4treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!5holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
They are the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women who are weighed down with sins and led astray by various passions,6For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses,
who are always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.7always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and disqualified from the faith.8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith.
But they will not advance much further. For just like Jannes and Jambres, their folly will be plain to everyone.9But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, just as Jannes's and Jambres's folly was also.
You, however, have observed my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my perseverance,10Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,
my persecutions, and the sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.11persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me!
Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,12Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
while evil men and imposters go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.13But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
But as for you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned them.14You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.15and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
