2:14 Who gave himself for us - To die in our stead. That he might redeem us - Miserable bondslaves, as well from the power and the very being, as from the guilt, of all our sins.
Salvation is the song that was to be sung by the redeemed in that day. "Behold now is the day." Our salvation has come. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, good will toward men." Remember that the LORD rescued you from the iron-smelting furnace of Egypt in order to make you his very own people and his special possession, which is what you are today.
For you are a holy people, who belong to the LORD your God. Of all the people on earth, the LORD your God has chosen you to be his own special treasure.
You have been set apart as holy to the LORD your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.
The LORD has declared today that you are his people, his own special treasure, just as he promised, and that you must obey all his commands.
He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin.
