10:40 Martha was encumbered - The Greek word properly signifies to be drawn different ways at the same time, and admirably expresses the situation of a mind, surrounded (as Martha's then was) with so many objects of care, that it hardly knows which to attend to first.

As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.
But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!
A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha.
So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus,
A dinner was prepared in Jesus' honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him.
