Don't kill them, for my people soon forget such lessons; stagger them with your power, and bring them to their knees, O Lord our shield.
But look! The Lord, the LORD of Heaven's Armies, will chop down the mighty tree of Assyria with great power! He will cut down the proud. That lofty tree will be brought down.
But though they thunder like breakers on a beach, God will silence them, and they will run away. They will flee like chaff scattered by the wind, like a tumbleweed whirling before a storm.
They have fled from the sword, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow and the terrors of battle.
Just as caterpillars and locusts strip the fields and vines, so the fallen army of Assyria will be stripped!
