And that this race was to become an holy people was declared in the Twelve Prophets by Hosea, thus: I will call that which was not (my) people, my people; and her that was not beloved, beloved. The Controversy Concerning Fasting
This is what the LORD says: "Was your mother sent away because I divorced her? Did I sell you as slaves to my creditors? No, you were sold because of your sins. And your mother, too, was taken because of your sins.
"If a man divorces a woman and she goes and marries someone else, he will not take her back again, for that would surely corrupt the land. But you have prostituted yourself with many lovers, so why are you trying to come back to me?" says the LORD.
Israel treated it all so lightly--she thought nothing of committing adultery by worshiping idols made of wood and stone. So now the land has been polluted.
But righteous people will judge these sister cities for what they really are--adulterers and murderers.
"In that day you will call your brothers Ammi--'My people.' And you will call your sisters Ruhamah--'The ones I love.'
Their mother is a shameless prostitute and became pregnant in a shameful way. She said, 'I'll run after other lovers and sell myself to them for food and water, for clothing of wool and linen, and for olive oil and drinks.'
So you will stumble in broad daylight, and your false prophets will fall with you in the night. And I will destroy Israel, your mother.
