Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.
For anyone who refused to obey the law of Moses was put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!
He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward.
Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven!

Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place--until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.
