21:9 Sarah saw the son of the Egyptian mocking - Mocking Isaac no doubt, for it is sad, with reference to this, Gal 4:29, that he that was born after the flesh, persecuted him that was born after the spirit. Ishmael is here called the son of the Egyptian, because (as some think) the four hundred years affliction of the seed of Abraham by the Egyptians began now, and was to be dated from hence.

But you are now being persecuted by those who want you to keep the law, just as Ishmael, the child born by human effort, persecuted Isaac, the child born by the power of the Spirit.
Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had not been able to bear children for him. But she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar.
So Abram had sexual relations with Hagar, and she became pregnant. But when Hagar knew she was pregnant, she began to treat her mistress, Sarai, with contempt.
When Isaac grew up and was about to be weaned, Abraham prepared a huge feast to celebrate the occasion.
Throw out the mocker, and fighting goes, too. Quarrels and insults will disappear.
