Art thou the King of the Jews? - The Jews had undoubtedly delivered him to Pilate as one who was rising up against the imperial authority, and assuming the regal office. See on Matthew 27:2 (note).

and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him."
