Salamis - The capital of the island of Cyprus; afterwards called Constantia, and now Salina, situated on the eastern part of the island.
They preached the word of God - Τον λογον, The doctrine of God, the Christian religion, emphatically so called.
They had also John to their minister - This was John Mark, of whom we heard, Acts 12:25; for their minister, ὑπηρετην, to assist them in minor offices, as deacon or servant, that they might give themselves wholly to the doctrine of the Lord.

At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God.
When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.
From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down.
Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: "We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.
At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed.
He sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, to Macedonia, while he stayed in the province of Asia a little longer.
Soon the whole city was in an uproar. The people seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul's traveling companions from Macedonia, and all of them rushed into the theater together.
