Parallel Chapters The Seven Lamps
(Exodus 25:31-40) 1The LORD said to Moses, | 1Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 1Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 1The LORD spoke to Moses: " |
"Speak to Aaron and say to him, 'When you set up the lamps, see that all seven light up the area in front of the lampstand.'" | 2“Speak to Aaron and say to him, When you set up the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lampstand.” | 2"Speak to Aaron and say to him, 'When you mount the lamps, the seven lamps will give light in the front of the lampstand.'" | 2Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick. | 2Speak to Aaron and tell him: When you set up the lamps, the seven lamps are to give light in front of the lampstand." |
Aaron did so; he set up the lamps so that they faced forward on the lampstand, just as the LORD commanded Moses. | 3And Aaron did so: he set up its lamps in front of the lampstand, as the LORD commanded Moses. | 3Aaron therefore did so; he mounted its lamps at the front of the lampstand, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. | 3And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses. | 3So Aaron did this; he set up its lamps to give light in front of the lampstand just as the LORD had commanded Moses. |
This is how the lampstand was made: It was made of hammered gold--from its base to its blossoms. The lampstand was made exactly like the pattern the LORD had shown Moses. | 4And this was the workmanship of the lampstand, hammered work of gold. From its base to its flowers, it was hammered work; according to the pattern that the LORD had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand. | 4Now this was the workmanship of the lampstand, hammered work of gold; from its base to its flowers it was hammered work; according to the pattern which the LORD had showed Moses, so he made the lampstand. | 4And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the LORD had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick. | 4This is the way the lampstand was made: it was a hammered work of gold, hammered from its base to its flower petals. The lampstand was made according to the pattern the LORD had shown Moses. |
Cleansing the Levites 5The LORD said to Moses: | 5And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 5Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 5And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 5The LORD spoke to Moses: " |
"Take the Levites from among all the Israelites and make them ceremonially clean. | 6“Take the Levites from among the people of Israel and cleanse them. | 6"Take the Levites from among the sons of Israel and cleanse them. | 6Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them. | 6Take the Levites from among the Israelites and ceremonially cleanse them. |
To purify them, do this: Sprinkle the water of cleansing on them; then have them shave their whole bodies and wash their clothes. And so they will purify themselves. | 7Thus you shall do to them to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of purification upon them, and let them go with a razor over all their body, and wash their clothes and cleanse themselves. | 7"Thus you shall do to them, for their cleansing: sprinkle purifying water on them, and let them use a razor over their whole body and wash their clothes, and they will be clean. | 7And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean. | 7This is what you must do to them for their purification: Sprinkle them with the purification water. Have them shave their entire bodies and wash their clothes, and so purify themselves." |
Have them take a young bull with its grain offering of the finest flour mixed with olive oil; then you are to take a second young bull for a sin offering. | 8Then let them take a bull from the herd and its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you shall take another bull from the herd for a sin offering. | 8"Then let them take a bull with its grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil; and a second bull you shall take for a sin offering. | 8Then let them take a young bullock with his meat offering, even fine flour mingled with oil, and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin offering. | 8They are to take a young bull and its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you are to take a second young bull for a sin offering. |
Bring the Levites to the front of the tent of meeting and assemble the whole Israelite community. | 9And you shall bring the Levites before the tent of meeting and assemble the whole congregation of the people of Israel. | 9"So you shall present the Levites before the tent of meeting. You shall also assemble the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, | 9And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt gather the whole assembly of the children of Israel together: | 9Bring the Levites before the tent of meeting and assemble the entire Israelite community. |
You are to bring the Levites before the LORD, and the Israelites are to lay their hands on them. | 10When you bring the Levites before the LORD, the people of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites, | 10and present the Levites before the LORD; and the sons of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites. | 10And thou shalt bring the Levites before the LORD: and the children of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites: | 10Then present the Levites before the LORD, and have the Israelites lay their hands on them. |
Aaron is to present the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the Israelites, so that they may be ready to do the work of the LORD. | 11and Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the people of Israel, that they may do the service of the LORD. | 11"Aaron then shall present the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the sons of Israel, that they may qualify to perform the service of the LORD. | 11And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD for an offering of the children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the LORD. | 11Aaron is to present the Levites before the LORD as a presentation offering from the Israelites, so that they may perform the LORD's work. |
"Then the Levites are to lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, using one for a sin offering to the LORD and the other for a burnt offering, to make atonement for the Levites. | 12Then the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering to the LORD to make atonement for the Levites. | 12"Now the Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls; then offer the one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering to the LORD, to make atonement for the Levites. | 12And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, unto the LORD, to make an atonement for the Levites. | 12Next the Levites are to lay their hands on the heads of the bulls. Sacrifice one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to the LORD, to make atonement for the Levites." |
Have the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons and then present them as a wave offering to the LORD. | 13And you shall set the Levites before Aaron and his sons, and shall offer them as a wave offering to the LORD. | 13"You shall have the Levites stand before Aaron and before his sons so as to present them as a wave offering to the LORD. | 13And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the LORD. | 13You are to have the Levites stand before Aaron and his sons, and you are to present them before the LORD as a presentation offering. |
In this way you are to set the Levites apart from the other Israelites, and the Levites will be mine. | 14“Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the people of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine. | 14"Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the sons of Israel, and the Levites shall be Mine. | 14Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine. | 14In this way you are to separate the Levites from the rest of the Israelites so that the Levites will belong to Me. |
"After you have purified the Levites and presented them as a wave offering, they are to come to do their work at the tent of meeting. | 15And after that the Levites shall go in to serve at the tent of meeting, when you have cleansed them and offered them as a wave offering. | 15"Then after that the Levites may go in to serve the tent of meeting. But you shall cleanse them and present them as a wave offering; | 15And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for an offering. | 15After that the Levites may come to serve at the tent of meeting, once you have ceremonially cleansed them and presented them as a presentation offering. |
They are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to me. I have taken them as my own in place of the firstborn, the first male offspring from every Israelite woman. | 16For they are wholly given to me from among the people of Israel. Instead of all who open the womb, the firstborn of all the people of Israel, I have taken them for myself. | 16for they are wholly given to Me from among the sons of Israel. I have taken them for Myself instead of every first issue of the womb, the firstborn of all the sons of Israel. | 16For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me. | 16For they have been exclusively assigned to Me from the Israelites. I have taken them for Myself in place of all who come first from the womb, every Israelite firstborn. |
Every firstborn male in Israel, whether human or animal, is mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set them apart for myself. | 17For all the firstborn among the people of Israel are mine, both of man and of beast. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I consecrated them for myself, | 17"For every firstborn among the sons of Israel is Mine, among the men and among the animals; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for Myself. | 17For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself. | 17For every firstborn among the Israelites is Mine, both man and animal. I consecrated them to Myself on the day I struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt. |
And I have taken the Levites in place of all the firstborn sons in Israel. | 18and I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel. | 18"But I have taken the Levites instead of every firstborn among the sons of Israel. | 18And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of Israel. | 18But I have taken the Levites in place of every firstborn among the Israelites. |
From among all the Israelites, I have given the Levites as gifts to Aaron and his sons to do the work at the tent of meeting on behalf of the Israelites and to make atonement for them so that no plague will strike the Israelites when they go near the sanctuary." | 19And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the people of Israel, to do the service for the people of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement for the people of Israel, that there may be no plague among the people of Israel when the people of Israel come near the sanctuary.” | 19"I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the sons of Israel, to perform the service of the sons of Israel at the tent of meeting and to make atonement on behalf of the sons of Israel, so that there will be no plague among the sons of Israel by their coming near to the sanctuary." | 19And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come nigh unto the sanctuary. | 19From the Israelites, I have given the Levites exclusively to Aaron and his sons to perform the work for the Israelites at the tent of meeting and to make atonement on their behalf, so that no plague will come against the Israelites when they approach the sanctuary." |
Moses, Aaron and the whole Israelite community did with the Levites just as the LORD commanded Moses. | 20Thus did Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the people of Israel to the Levites. According to all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, the people of Israel did to them. | 20Thus did Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the sons of Israel to the Levites; according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the sons of Israel did to them. | 20And Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, did to the Levites according unto all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them. | 20Moses, Aaron, and the entire Israelite community did this to the Levites. The Israelites did everything to them the LORD commanded Moses regarding the Levites. |
The Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes. Then Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the LORD and made atonement for them to purify them. | 21And the Levites purified themselves from sin and washed their clothes, and Aaron offered them as a wave offering before the LORD, and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them. | 21The Levites, too, purified themselves from sin and washed their clothes; and Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the LORD. Aaron also made atonement for them to cleanse them. | 21And the Levites were purified, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them as an offering before the LORD; and Aaron made an atonement for them to cleanse them. | 21The Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes; then Aaron presented them before the LORD as a presentation offering. Aaron also made atonement for them to ceremonially cleanse them. |
After that, the Levites came to do their work at the tent of meeting under the supervision of Aaron and his sons. They did with the Levites just as the LORD commanded Moses. | 22And after that the Levites went in to do their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron and his sons; as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them. | 22Then after that the Levites went in to perform their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron and before his sons; just as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them. | 22And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them. | 22After that, the Levites came to do their work at the tent of meeting in the presence of Aaron and his sons. So they did to them as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites. |
Retirement for Levites 23The LORD said to Moses, | 23And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 23Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, | 23And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 23The LORD spoke to Moses: " |
"This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years old or more shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting, | 24“This applies to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall come to do duty in the service of the tent of meeting. | 24"This is what applies to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall enter to perform service in the work of the tent of meeting. | 24This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: | 24In regard to the Levites: From 25 years old or more, a man enters the service in the work at the tent of meeting. |
but at the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer. | 25And from the age of fifty years they shall withdraw from the duty of the service and serve no more. | 25"But at the age of fifty years they shall retire from service in the work and not work any more. | 25And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more: | 25But at 50 years old he is to retire from his service in the work and no longer serve. |
They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must not do the work. This, then, is how you are to assign the responsibilities of the Levites." | 26They minister to their brothers in the tent of meeting by keeping guard, but they shall do no service. Thus shall you do to the Levites in assigning their duties.” | 26"They may, however, assist their brothers in the tent of meeting, to keep an obligation, but they themselves shall do no work. Thus you shall deal with the Levites concerning their obligations." | 26But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge. | 26He may assist his brothers to fulfill responsibilities at the tent of meeting, but he must not do the work. This is how you are to deal with the Levites regarding their duties." |
