Rich Oppressors Will Be Judged

1Go to now, youp rich men, weep and howl for yourp miseries that shall come upon youp.   come

2Yourp riches are corrupted, and yourp garments are moth-eaten.   rotted

3Yourp gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against youp, and shall eat yourp flesh as it were fire. Youp have heaped treasure together for the last days.   rusted; stored up; in

4Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down yourp fields, which is of youp kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.   EXO 2:23 | wages; Hosts

5Youp have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; youp have nourished yourp hearts, as in a day of slaughter.   self-indulgent

6Youp have condemned and killed the just; and he does not resist youp.   righteous or innocent (one)

Be Patient and Persevering

7Be patient therefore, brethren, to the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.   farmer

8Be youp also patient; establish yourp hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws near.   strengthen

9Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest youp be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.   complain

10Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

11Behold, we count them happy which endure. Youp have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.   JOB 1:22 | end result; meaning the Lord’s action

12But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let yourp yes be yes; and yourp no, no; lest youp fall into condemnation.   LEV 5:4 | judgment

Meeting Specific Needs

13Is any among youp afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.   hymns, praises

14Is any sick among youp? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.   heal

16Confess yourp faults one to another, and pray one for another, that youp may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.   effective; accomplishes

17Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.   1 KGS 17:1 | the same; for

Bring Back the Erring One

19Brethren, if any of youp do err from the truth, and one convert him;   wander; turn him back

20Let him know, that he which converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.   turns; cover
