Pride Promotes Strife

1From where come wars and fightings among you^p? come they not here, even of your^p lusts that war in your^p members? body parts

2You^p lust, and have not: you^p kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: you^p fight and war, yet you^p have not, because you^p ask not.

3You^p ask, and receive not, because you^p ask amiss, that you^p may consume it upon your^p lusts.

4You^p adulterers and adulteresses, know you^p not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5Do you^p think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy?

6But He gives more grace. Wherefore He says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. PROV 3:34

Humility Cures Worldliness

7Submit yourselves^p therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you^p.

8Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you^p. Cleanse your^p hands, you^p sinners; and purify your^p hearts, you^p double minded. 2 CHRON 15:2 | indecisive, doubters

9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your^p laughter be turned to mourning, and your^p joy to heaviness. miserable; gloom

10Humble yourselves^p in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you^p up.

Do Not Judge a Brother

11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12There is One Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judge another?

Do Not Boast About Tomorrow

13Go to now, you^p that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: come

14Whereas you^p know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your^p life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. next day; like a mist

15For that you^p ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. instead

16But now you^p rejoice in your^p boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. arrogance

17Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
