James 4
KJV Easy Read Bible

Pride Promotes Strife

1From where come wars and fightings among youp? come they not here, even of yourp lusts that war in yourp members?   body parts

2Youp lust, and have not: youp kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: youp fight and war, yet youp have not, because youp ask not.

3Youp ask, and receive not, because youp ask amiss, that youp may consume it upon yourp lusts.

4Youp adulterers and adulteresses, know youp not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5Do youp think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy?

6But He gives more grace. Wherefore He says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.   PROV 3:34

Humility Cures Worldliness

7Submit yourselvesp therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from youp.

8Draw near to God, and He will draw near to youp. Cleanse yourp hands, youp sinners; and purify yourp hearts, youp double minded.   2 CHRON 15:2 | indecisive, doubters

9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let yourp laughter be turned to mourning, and yourp joy to heaviness.   miserable; gloom

10Humble yourselvesp in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift youp up.

Do Not Judge a Brother

11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12There is One Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judge another?

Do Not Boast About Tomorrow

13Go to now, youp that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:   come

14Whereas youp know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is yourp life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.   next day; like a mist

15For that youp ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.   instead

16But now youp rejoice in yourp boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.   arrogance

17Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
