Gospel Over the Airwaves World Radio Missionary Fellowship (WRMF) On March 9, 1931, the World Radio Missionary Fellowship (WRMF) was incorporated in Lima, Ohio. Clarence W. Jones and Reuben Larson stepped into a new field of service at a time when radio was still gaining public trust and the nation was gripped by uncertainty. While many feared what tomorrow might bring, they pursued a different course: prayer, Scripture, and the conviction that Christ’s saving message must travel farther than any pulpit could reach. Clarence W. Jones and Reuben Larson Jones and Larson are remembered for quiet heroism—heroism measured not by applause but by obedience. Their work required resilience, sacrifice, and steady faith as they navigated technical limitations, financial pressures, and the skepticism that often meets new methods. They acted on the belief that God can sanctify ordinary tools for extraordinary ends when His people walk in humility and truth. Lima, Ohio, and Prayerful Innovation Lima became a strategic starting point: a small-city base for a far-reaching mission. WRMF treated radio not as entertainment, but as a stewarded channel for proclamation. Their approach echoed the command of Jesus: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19–20). The microphone became a means to carry Scripture into homes, workplaces, and places where a preacher could not easily go. Interdenominational Fellowship and Gospel Clarity WRMF’s interdenominational vision encouraged cooperation without blurring essentials. Believers from varied backgrounds united around the plain announcement of sin, grace, and salvation in Jesus Christ, maintaining a focus on the Word rather than personalities. Their burden matched Paul’s logic: “How can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach?” (Romans 10:14). Continuing Reach That same burden continues today as the Gospel is broadcast in 15 languages across South America and throughout Europe. WRMF’s story stands as a testimony that faithful witness is not confined by distance, borders, or walls, and that God still uses courageous, prayerful servants to send the good news to those who need to hear. |
