Good News Translation
You were very careful and patient in punishing your people's enemies; even when they deserved to die, you gave them every opportunity to give up their sinful ways.

For if you punished with such great care and indulgence the enemies of your servants and those deserving of death, granting them time and opportunity to give up their wickedness,

The enemies of your people deserved death, but you patiently gave them time to give up their sins, before punishing them.
