Sirach 23:12
Good News Translation
There is one way of speaking that is like death itself--may no Israelite ever be guilty of it! Devout people do not wallow in such sin, and they will keep away from such behavior.

New Revised Standard Version
There is a manner of speaking comparable to death; may it never be found in the inheritance of Jacob! Such conduct will be far from the godly, and they will not wallow in sins.

Contemporary English Version
Vulgar talk is sinful and deadly. Godly people do not enjoy sin, so they don't use evil words, and I pray that none will ever be heard in Israel.

New American Bible
There are words comparable to death; may they never be heard in the inheritance of Jacob. To the devout all such words are foreign; they do not wallow in sin.

Douay-Rheims Bible
A man that sweareth much, shall be filled with iniquity, and a scourge shall not depart from his house.
