1 Maccabees 8:31
Good News Translation
"Furthermore, concerning the wrongs which King Demetrius is doing against the Jews, we have written him as follows, 'Why have you treated our friends and allies, the Jews, so harshly?

“Concerning the wrongs that King Demetrius is doing to them, we have written to him as follows, ‘Why have you made your yoke heavy on our friends and allies the Jews?

The Romans also told the Jewish messengers: We've written to King Demetrius about the trouble he is causing you, and we told him: "King Demetrius, the Jews are friends and allies of Rome. Why are you so cruel to them?
