Good News Translation
When Alcimus saw that Judas and his men were growing more powerful and when he realized that he would not be able to stand against them, he returned to the king and accused them of great crimes.

New Revised Standard Version
When Alcimus saw that Judas and those with him had grown strong, and realized that he could not withstand them, he returned to the king and brought malicious charges against them.

Contemporary English Version
Alcimus realized he could not oppose Judas and his powerful army. So he returned to King Demetrius and accused them of terrible crimes.
