1 Maccabees 14:35
Good News Translation
When the people saw Simon's patriotism and how he wanted to bring glory to his nation, they made him their leader and High Priest. They did this because of all that he had accomplished through his loyalty and because he had brought about justice and had tried in every way to bring glory to his nation.

“The people saw Simon’s faithfulness and the glory that he had resolved to win for his nation, and they made him their leader and high priest, because he had done all these things and because of the justice and loyalty that he had maintained toward his nation. He sought in every way to exalt his people.

Contemporary English Version
"Simon was a dependable man who had high hopes for our country and did all he could to make our nation glorious. So we chose him to be our ruler and high priest.
