Good News Translation
He fortified the seaport of Joppa and the city of Gezer on the border of Azotus, which was previously occupied by enemy soldiers. He settled Jews there and provided the towns with everything that the people needed.

He also fortified Joppa, which is by the sea, and Gazara, which is on the borders of Azotus, where the enemy formerly lived. He settled Jews there, and provided in those towns whatever was necessary for their restoration.

"Simon built a fortress in the coastal town of Joppa as well as in the town of Gazara, because it was close to Azotus, which had been a stronghold for our enemies. Simon settled Jews in Gazara, and he gave everyone in these towns whatever they needed to make the towns fit to live in.
