Our Help Is in the name of Yahweh

שִׁ֥יר (A Song) הַֽמַּעֲל֗וֹת (of the Ascents). לְדָ֫וִ֥ד (Of David).

לוּלֵ֣י (If not) 1יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) שֶׁהָ֣יָה (had been) לָ֑נוּ (for us)—

יֹֽאמַר־ (let say) נָ֝א (now) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel)—

2  לוּלֵ֣י (If not) יְ֭הוָה (YHWH) שֶׁהָ֣יָה (had been) לָ֑נוּ (for us)

בְּק֖וּם (in the rising up) עָלֵ֣ינוּ (against us) אָדָֽם׃ (of men),

3  אֲ֭זַי (then) חַיִּ֣ים (alive) בְּלָע֑וּנוּ (they would have swallowed us)

בַּחֲר֖וֹת (in the burning) אַפָּ֣ם (of their anger) בָּֽנוּ׃ (against us),

4  אֲ֭זַי (then) הַמַּ֣יִם (the waters) שְׁטָפ֑וּנוּ (would have engulfed us),

נַ֗֜חְלָה (the stream) עָבַ֥ר (would have passed) עַל־ (over) נַפְשֵֽׁנוּ׃ (our soul),

5  אֲ֭זַי (then) עָבַ֣ר (would have passed) עַל־ (over) נַפְשֵׁ֑נוּ (our soul)

הַ֝מַּ֗יִם (the waters) הַזֵּֽידוֹנִֽים׃ (raging).

6  בָּר֥וּךְ (Blessed be) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH);

שֶׁלֹּ֥א (who not) נְתָנָ֥נוּ (has given us) טֶ֝֗רֶף (to be prey) לְשִׁנֵּיהֶֽם׃ (to their teeth).

7  נַפְשֵׁ֗נוּ (Our soul) כְּצִפּ֥וֹר (like a bird) נִמְלְטָה֮ (has escaped) מִפַּ֪ח (from the snare) י֫וֹקְשִׁ֥ים (of the fowlers);

הַפַּ֥ח (the snare) נִשְׁבָּ֗ר (is broken), וַאֲנַ֥חְנוּ (and we) נִמְלָֽטְנוּ׃ (have slipped away).

8  עֶ֭זְרֵנוּ (Our help is) בְּשֵׁ֣ם (in the name) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH),

עֹ֝שֵׂ֗ה (the Maker) שָׁמַ֥יִם (of the heavens) וָאָֽרֶץ׃ (and the earth).
